Manual Therapy

Sport and Spine Physical Therapy ServicesOur physical therapists specialize in manual therapy techniques to evaluate the muscles, fascia, nerves and joints. This hands-on approach improves mobility in areas that are restricted, such as the joints or skeletal muscle. We also incorporate other treatment methods such as Pilates for core strengthening or massage therapy for relieving muscle tension to enhance the healing process.

Pilates

While manual therapy addresses joint dysfunction, Pilates targets the development of muscles to help stabilize the body in its proper alignment. Pilates-based exercises retrain weak and dysfunctional muscles to improve stabilization and increase flexibility in the spine, shoulders, hips and knees.

Trigger Point Dry Needling

Trigger Point Dry Needling (TPDN) is a treatment for relieving pain caused by trigger points – the painful spots in a muscle, which when pressed upon, will send pain to a different area, called a referral pattern. For example, pressing on the muscles at the base of the neck can send pain up to the head. Dry needling is the insertion of a very small, fine needle with a round, solid tip into the trigger point to release the tight muscles, stimulating the body’s system for healing, increasing blood flow and alleviating muscle banding and pain. There is very low risk of adverse tissue damage or infection with dry needling, and often less discomfort is experienced than with a traditional injection.

Massage Therapy

Our massage therapists work closely together to address tight and dysfunctional muscles and to develop customized patient programs. The incorporation of massage therapy into the overall treatment program has helped to reduce pain and has shortened recovery time for most patients.

Aqua Therapy

Aqua therapy is appropriate for many different patients. Physical therapists conduct one-on-one and group fitness classes that are designed to restore mobility, increase strength and improve cardiovascular conditioning. This therapy uses water-based techniques to improve stability while minimizing pain.

Custom Orthotics

Proper biomechanical alignment and function is critically important in relieving and preventing some of the following symptoms: lower back and hip pain, knee pain, shin splints, heel pain, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendon pain, tendonitis, bunions, and other complaints often associated with improper foot biomechanics. At Sport and Spine, trained specialists perform a comprehensive evaluation, as well as casting for custom orthotics. Custom made orthotics support and gently reposition the bones and soft tissues in feet, enabling them to function properly to ensure that each step you take is pain-free. Custom orthotics can be designed to fit in dress shoes, athletics shoes, boots, and skates to fit your every lifestyle.
