Why are female athletes more prone to knee injuries?
The ACL is a powerful stabilizing ligament in the knee and is commonly injured in adolescent female athletes. Injury to this ligament is season ending and always requires surgery to stabilize. Research shows that the incidence of ACL injuries is on average five times greater in female athletes than their male counterparts, due to the difference in structural characteristics between males and females. One of the characteristics in the female athlete is a functional strength deficiency of the hip, decreasing control of the upper leg, making the ACL much more vulnerable to injury. These injuries often occur in females in non-contact situations, for example cutting while running. Thus, Go Knees Go is an effective program to help adolescent female athletes avoid non-contact ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injuries.
Benefits of Our Go Knees Go Training Program
The good news is that a specific neuromuscular and proprioceptive training program such as Go Knees Go can help prevent non-contact injuries. Research shows that this kind of training can reduce the chance of ACL injuries occurring by over fifty percent! This training program can easily be integrated into team practice sessions.
How Does the Program Work?
Each team member receives a 20-minute, one-on-one evaluation with a licensed Physical Therapist. We will evaluate biomechanics, strength, flexibility, and address any personal complaints and give our recommendations. Then we will schedule three one-hour team sessions to educate and instruct the coaches, team members and parents on proper mechanics and exercises for both rehabilitation and prevention of knee injuries. Throughout the season, we will reinforce with the team, the exercises and concepts leading to a stronger and best-ever season.
What is the Cost for the Go Knees Go Program?
$400 per team of 12 or fewer players
$650 per team of 13 to 18 players, please add $30 per person if there are more than 18 players on the team
